Retrofit Comparison Calculators: T5 vs Metal Halide Lighting

Looking to buy new lighting for your warehouse? Looking for a simple way to compare metal halide lighting with low-energy T5 fluorescent technologies?

The decision is a no-brainer really: high-quality intelligent T5 fittings such as the energy efficient Somar Eluma lighting system result lower energy bills, better light qualty, less light degradation and lower carbon emissions when compared to conventional metal halide lights. Sometimes, however, it’s nice to be able to play around with the figures to really see the comparison.

To help you decide on whether to opt for energy efficient T5 or metal halide lighting, Somar International Ltd has created a T5-Metal Halide Comparision Calculator so that you can see the approximate financial savings that your company can realise by replacing your existing metal halide lights for T5-based Somar Eluma intelligent luminaries.

The savings displayed are calculated from a one-to-one swap of metal halides for Somar Eluma T5 lights. However, due the better light output from Eluma versus metal halides, which lose around 35% of their output over just a couple of years, then retrofits often require less Eluma T5 lights than the original metal halides, reducing the initial expenditure and therefore reducing the payback period even more.

The T5-metal halide calculator is also based on the newest 2010 version of the Eluma warehouse light range: the Somar Eluma High Bay Series II light. Always looking to improve our ability to save you money, Somar’s latest innovations in design and lighting controls have give the Eluma High Bay Series II lower energy consumption, higher light levels and more control, whilst also reducing the carbon footprint of the light itself and manufacturing it in the UK.

The comparison also calculates the benefits from the Enhanced Capital Allowance available on Somar Eluma lighting. It doesn’t, however, take into account the possibility of applying for an unsecured interest-free Carbon Trust loan to finance the entire T5 installation!
