How To Start A Green Business Driven By Federal Stimulus Money
Posted on 12. May, 2010 by Ross in North America
Remember the stimulus package which was supposed to bring millions of green-collar jobs to the USA? The hundreds of billions of dollars which were going to revitalise energy efficiency and renewable energy across America?
Guess what: it’s not getting spent.
Only 10% of the $20 billion of US stimulus dollars earmarked for energy efficiency projects has been spent, leaving vast amounts of funding available to help businesses and public bodies save money and use less energy.
Additionally, 80% of what has been spent has been grabbed by the institutional and federal sectors, leaving the enormous potential of the private commercial building market largely ignored and untapped. Any new business aiming to help companies save energy and money through energy efficiency projects such as energy efficient lighting will be able to draw on vast amounts of stimulus funding to penetrate a massive virgin marketplace.
On top of that, the White House is doing all the green marketing itself, with energy secretary Stephen Chu declaring ‘Energy efficiency isn’t just the low-hanging fruit, it’s the fruit lying on the ground.’
Somar International Ltd is a UK-based company specialising in energy-saving technology since 1991, and is looking to forge business partnerships with US companies and entrepreneurs who wish to distribute Somar products in the US.
