Vietnam Pursues Energy-Efficient Industry

Vietnam is pursuing an aggressive policy of improving energy efficiency in factories and warehouses in a bid to increase the competitiveness and profitability of local industries.

The socialist south-east Asian country has been implementing a national programme for energy efficiency for the last three years, with the aim of saving 3-5% of national energy demands by 2010 and 5-8% by 2015, but with much of the emphasis on raising awareness. Some businesses managed to upgrade equipment, but the programme failed to generate enough action and many companies lacked the financial resources to embark on energy-saving projects.
