Established Technologies To Maintain Edge During The Credit Crunch

Established and proven energy-saving and clean technologies are likely to maintain their leading market positions over emerging start-ups during the current downturn in the economic cycle, making them set to make the biggest impacts on climate change and the biggest operating profits.

Concerns have continued to grow over the ability of ‘green’ start-up companies to access sufficient funding in the current economic climate to get established, and their ability to make inroads into competitive markets without growing enough for their expensive manufacturing costs to benefit from the economics of scale. This weekend’s MIT Energy Conference became the latest voice to bemoan the effects of the current economic climate on green entrepreneurs, adding to the clamour from green companies for international carbon pricing and cap-and-trade schemes. Such measures would boost their competitiveness at a time where companies are struggling for investment capital and the price of energy stocks such as oil has recently tumbled.

By contrast, established companies with proven technology are able to offer substantial environmental, financial and operational savings. One such company is Somar International, with 18 years experience and innovation in energy-saving technology. Their product range includes intelligent lighting, efficient motor controllers and commercial freezer technology which offer instant energy savings of up to 80%, with lease agreements on their Eluma lighting in the UK enabling companies to benefit not just from instant savings but from instant positive cashflow too!
